"To create one's own world in any of the arts takes courage."
- Georgia O'Keeffe
I am most genuinely myself while in the process of creating my art. It has been a coping mechanism that I have had with me from the moment I could pick up and use anything that would make marks. By the age of five, having the understanding of what an artist was, I knew I was one. I always enjoyed the challenge of creation and recreation through drawing, painting, and sculpture.
As an adult, art continues to be a creative outlet, as well as my means of support. The creation of art is my way to sanity...if only for a moment.
Along with my interest in painting, drawing and sculpture, in 2007 I began working with metal and started making art jewelry. I have been interested in the creation of jewelery since college. While studying at Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey, I became employed by local jeweler, Trifon Nomidis. He has been the owner of "Creations Between Us" for over thirty years. Already in the process of making my own beaded items, I could not pass up the opportunity to work for someone in the jewelry business.
Trifon taught me all about how to identify gem stones, and gave me my first metal smithing lessons. While still working a full time job as a graphic designer, I found time to hone my skills worked out of the bed room and kitchen in my apartment in New Jersey.
Things have changed quite a bit since then. I quite my design job to pursue my art full time. In November of 2007, my husband and I bought a home in Pen Argyl, Pennsylvania, giving me my own dedicated studio and gallery space (that is once the renovations are done!).
I want to take a moment to thank all who have been a part of my life, and have encouraged me on my journey. To all my family and friends I send my love and hope for the future.
